Sen. Chuck Grassley Goes After Trump: ‘We’re Here to Do Business—I’m Offended by the President’s Words’

Senate Republicans either don’t grasp the urgency of quickly confirming President Trump’s nominees — especially judges — or they’re secretly fine with watching the Trump administration get overruled again and again by far-left, black-robed tyrants.

Senate Democrats are using a long-standing but little-known procedure called the ‘blue slip’ process to gum up the works.

As The Hill explains, the process works like this: The Senate Judiciary Committee won’t advance federal district court or prosecutor nominees unless both home-state senators approve them using ‘blue slip’ forms.

This means Trump can’t get district judges or U.S. attorneys confirmed in deep-blue states like California, New York, Illinois, or Nevada without both Democratic senators signing off. And in states with one Republican senator—like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin—he’s still blocked unless the Democrat agrees.

President Trump last night demanded Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) end the outdated ‘blue-slip’ tradition, blasting Senate Democrats for weaponizing it to block his judicial picks and keep radical leftists in power.

Trump also reminded Americans that Biden and Senate Democrats have repeatedly discarded the ‘blue-slip’ rule when it suited them — and warned that Grassley would be showing cowardice if he refused to do the same now.

Grassley responded this morning by attacking Trump instead of respecting his request or proposing a real alternative.

“Last night I was surprised to see President Trump on Truth Social go after me and Senate Republicans over what we call the blue slip…The people in real America don’t care what the blue slip is, but it impacts in their states the district judges who serve their communities and the U.S. attorneys who ensure the law and order is enforced,” Grassley stated.

“I was offended by what the president said and I’m disappointed that it would result in personal insults. We’re here to do business that’s a very important part of this committee’s work, to do our constitutional duties of reviewing people who require Senate confirmation,” he added.

It’s time for senators like Grassley, who’s 91, to retire since they won’t fight fire with fire. Someone like Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) should take his place.
