Due to the Hollywood actors’ strike keeping him away from promotional responsibilities for his most recent film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Robert De Niro has gone back to his preferred side job: attacking former President Donald Trump and his followers.
During a speech at the “Stop Trump Summit” on Wednesday, Robert De Niro initially urged the audience “to reach out to Trump’s followers with respect.” However, moments later, he disparaged those very Trump followers by asserting that they had already “already turned their backs on democracy.”
He also called Trump “evil,” adding that “democracy won’t survive” if Trump is re-elected.
De Niro’s address was a segment of the “Stop Trump Summit” held in New York and coordinated by The New Republic, a left-wing publication that has frequently criticized conservatives throughout its history.
The actor couldn’t give the speech in person because he had contracted COVID. Instead, the speech was recited by Miles Taylor, the former Trump opponent who published an anonymous op-ed for The New York Times in 2018, identifying himself as a member of the deep state “resistance.”
“I’ve spent a lot of time studying bad men. I’ve examined their characteristics, their mannerisms, the utter banality of their cruelty. Yet there’s something different about Donald Trump. When I look at him, I don’t see a bad man. Truly. I see an evil one,” De Niro stated.
The actor’s frequent use of the term “democracy” aligns with a broader and populist strategy employed by the Biden administration, aiming to portray any political opposition as a danger to our democratic system.
In De Niro’s speech, there was no reference to Biden, despite the fact that during his tenure, Americans have been suffering from severe inflation and a wide-open southern border that has seen millions of illegal aliens enter the country.
The actor didn’t bring up the dire situation in his own hometown of New York, where an unparalleled and disastrous surge of illegal aliens is pushing the city’s already grim financial condition to its limits.
Additionally, he chose not to discuss the ongoing crises in Israel and Ukraine, both of which happened after Biden took office.
