Michelle Obama seems to be going out of her way to avoid President Trump, though the reasons remain unclear.
According to the Associated Press, Michelle Obama announced she would not attend President Trump’s historic inauguration on January 20. Interestingly, Barack will be attending.
The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama issued the following statement to the Associated Press:
“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”
This is her second snub of the soon-to-be 47th President in just as many weeks.
Neither Obama’s team nor Michelle herself explained why she was skipping Trump’s inauguration. Readers are left to draw their own conclusions about what, if anything, this signifies.
Along with Barack, the Clintons and the Bushes will attend, honoring Trump as he takes the oath of office once again. Of course, Trump’s family will be there too.
Michelle’s noticeable absence at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week didn’t go unnoticed, and the stated reason for it raised some eyebrows.
With his wife absent, Barack Obama took her place next to Trump and seemed to enjoy himself.
A source ‘familiar’ with Michelle’s schedule told Politico she wasn’t trying to snub the 45th and soon-to-be-47th president. Instead, the unnamed source claimed she had a ‘scheduling conflict’ and was forced to stay in Hawaii.
Now, she’s skipping Trump’s inauguration without offering any explanation. Is this a snub, or is there something else at play?
