Khaled Mashal, the former leader and founder of Hamas, has urged for a worldwide Muslim uprising in support of Palestine.
In a recent speech, Mashal stressed the importance of Muslims being prepared to make sacrifices, including being ready to engage in Jihad and even give their lives for the Palestinian cause.
Mashal has designated the upcoming Friday as the ‘Friday of Al-Aqsa flood,’ encouraging Muslims globally to display their anger not only in Muslim-majority countries but also in overseas communities.
The name Al-Aqsa means “the farthest mosque” or “the farthest sanctuary.” The mosque is located within the Haram al-Sharif, also known as the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem, Israel.
This is nothing less than an undisguised call for international unrest. Considering the volatile situation in Gaza and the wider Middle East, these remarks shouldn’t be taken lightly. The aim is to convey a ‘message of rage’ to Israel and the United States, but what could be unleashed is a surge of violence and conflict that might affect numerous nations.
The most chilling aspect of Mashal’s speech was his straightforward plea for Muslims to participate in Jihad by sacrificing their lives for the cause. While terrorism is not a new issue, this open and direct call for individuals to become martyrs in a holy war against Israel is deeply unsettling.
What’s even more alarming is Mashal’s emphasis on Muslims living in countries neighboring Israel, such as Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt. He’s essentially trying to rally a large, uncontrollable force right at Israel’s doorstep. The risk of an explosive and unmanageable conflict in this region is genuine and imminent.
