As the trial for hush-money charges kicked off in New York City on Monday, James Comey, the once-respected FBI Director now facing disgrace, shared a photo on Instagram. The image featured a Mr. Potato Head figure resembling former President Donald Trump.
“Grandkids had this out today, which seems right. They’re too young to appreciate the rule of law—but they’ll learn, as many adults will, I hope,” he posted on Instagram.
During his presidency, Trump fired the former FBI director, leading the bureau to initiate a special counsel probe into bogus allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to win the 2016 election.
The allegations stemmed from poorly conducted opposition research funded by Never Trumpers and the Hillary Clinton campaign, famously known as “pee dossier.”
Comey also informed Trump about the dossier’s existence, leading to its leak to BuzzFeed. This fueled a media frenzy for years, revolving around the Russia collusion hoax.
Comey further angered Democrats by opting not to pursue charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her use of an unclassified server located in her basement.
However, he did criticize her for being “extremely careless” in handling “very sensitive, highly classified information.”
