Bipartisan Lawmakers Introduce Resolution Honoring Corey Comperatore

A bipartisan duo of House lawmakers has introduced a resolution to honor the man who lost his life during the July 13 rally for former President Donald Trump, which was targeted by an assassination attempt.

Corey Comperatore, 50, attended the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was killed when Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire from a rooftop in an attempt to assassinate the GOP presidential nominee.

Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) introduced the resolution on July 15 to remember Mr. Comperatore.

It calls Mr. Comperatore “a hero to his family and hero to his country for his service.”

It states that the House “recognizes the life of Corey Comperatore and his service to the country” and “recognizes that Corey Comperatore gave his life for his wife and two daughters.”

The resolution also urges government officials to condemn the attempted assassination of former President Trump as well as all types of political violence.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, paid tribute to Mr. Comperatore on July 14.

“Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday,” he told reporters.

“Corey loved his community, and, most especially, Corey loved his family. Corey was an avid supporter of the former president and was so excited to be there last night with him in the community,” he added.

Mr. Comperatore was a former firefighter. He leaves behind his wife, Helen Comperatore, and two daughters.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, former President Trump urged people to “keep in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

President Joe Biden extended his “deepest condolences,” describing Mr. Comperatore as a father who was protecting his family “from the bullets being fired, and he lost his life. God bless him.”

In addition to former President Trump, the shooting injured James Copenhaver, 74, and David Dutch, 57. According to Pennsylvania State Police, both are now in stable condition after previously being in critical condition.
