On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced the most radical environmental rules in U.S. history, aiming to phase out gas-powered vehicles and mandate the use of electric cars, despite concerns about their efficiency.
Per the reports, the Biden administration, along with the White House and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), made a joint announcement, confirming a set of environmental regulations aimed at significantly reducing emissions from gas-powered vehicle tailpipes.
These regulations, purportedly a response to concerns about greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, are expected to have a substantial economic impact.
The announcement wasn’t unexpected, given reports suggesting the rules would be confirmed this week. However, it represents a change from last month when administration officials were reportedly contemplating easing up on the initiative as a concession to automakers and labor unions during an election year.
Reports notes the rules are designed to push electric vehicles. Regime officials say they expect nearly 70% of all new car sales to be zero-emissions within a few years.
As per Fox News:
Automakers will be forced to rapidly curb the emissions of greenhouse gases, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter from new passenger cars, light trucks, and larger pickups and vans, beginning with model year 2027 vehicles.
When the tailpipe emissions rules kick in, automakers will be compelled to increase production and sales of EVs, plug-in hybrids, traditional hybrids, and fuel cell vehicles. Under one “low cost” model EPA outlined in the rule, automakers would be forced to ensure 56% of light-duty car sales are battery electric, and another 13% are hybrid by 2032.
Biden posted a video statement on X, celebrating the new regulations as a fulfillment of his promise and pledging to “race forward in the years ahead.”
“Three years ago, I set an ambitious target: that half of all new cars and trucks sold in 2030 would be zero-emission. I brought together American autoworkers. Together, we’ve made historic progress. Hundreds of new expanded factories across the country. Hundreds of billions in private investment and thousands of good-paying union jobs. And we’ll meet my goal for 2030 and race forward in the years ahead,” said President Biden.

Karoline Leavitt, the national press secretary for the Trump campaign, informed Fox News that Biden’s “anti-American” edict would devastate the auto industry, and Trump would overturn it immediately upon taking office.
“Joe Biden’s extreme electric vehicle mandate will force Americans to buy ultra-expensive cars they do not want and cannot afford while destroying the U.S. auto industry in the process. This radical policy is anti-jobs, anti-consumer, and anti-American,” Leavitt said.
“It will destroy the livelihoods of countless U.S. autoworkers while sending the U.S. auto industry to China. President Trump will reverse Joe Biden’s extreme electric vehicle mandate on Day One,” she concluded.
