According to reports, visitor logs indicate that a meeting occurred between the White House and Hunter Biden’s legal team shortly before he defied a congressional subpoena. This development has raised concerns about potential coordination.
White House visitor logs revealed that Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, met with Anthony Bernal, a key aide to First Lady Jill Biden, on December 11th.
This meeting in the East Wing took place at 6 p.m., just two days before Hunter Biden declined to comply with a House subpoena for a transcribed interview.
Bernal, frequently called Jill Biden’s “work husband,” has come under scrutiny for his close ties to the first family and his role in handling classified information at the Penn Biden Center.
Despite these controversies, he continues to hold sway within the White House, protected by his long-standing relationship with the Bidens’.
The House Oversight Committee’s investigation into President Joe Biden’s management of classified information has intensified focus on Bernal’s position, as the committee seeks clarification regarding any possible collaboration between Hunter Biden and the White House.
Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has stressed the need for transparency, calling on the White House to make meeting information public.
In reply, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has avoided direct involvement, stating that Hunter Biden is a private citizen and underscoring his autonomy from the administration.
Nevertheless, inquiries remain regarding President Biden’s knowledge of his son’s legal matters and any potential attempts to influence them.
Comer stated that the level of coordination between Hunter Biden and the White House has been kept under wraps.
“We’ve called on the White House to provide information about whether President Biden sought to influence or obstruct our investigation by preventing, discouraging, or dissuading his son from complying with the subpoenas for a deposition as part of the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, but the White House has refused to provide any information,” he said.
Hunter Biden eventually cooperated with House investigators two months after his initial defiance.
