An illegal alien who has been deported five times is now facing accusations of causing a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy walking home from school in Midland, Texas.
Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas, a 50-year-old five-time deported illegal immigrant from Mexico has been arrested and charged with drunk driving.
He is accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of 10-year-old Alex “AJ” Wise Jr.
Midland is located within a four-hour drive from the U.S.-Mexico border.
As per the Midland Police Department, on February 8th, Ortiz-Olivas was behind the wheel of a truck when he struck Wise, who was walking home from school. Police stated that Ortiz-Olivas immediately fled the scene, leaving Wise critically injured.
Wise was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, but succumbed to his injuries the next morning. He attended IDEA Travis as a student, and his family portrayed him as “the sweetest, coolest, funniest little boy you ever would meet” in a post on GoFundMe.
A memorial fundraiser for Wise will take place on Saturday, February 17th.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials informed CBS7 News that Ortiz-Olivas, now detained with an ICE detainer, was initially sent back to Mexico under a voluntary departure order after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
However, Ortiz-Olivas illegally reentered the U.S. multiple times and has been deported five times by ICE agents since his initial voluntary departure.
Ortiz-Olivas is currently held in custody by the Midland Police Department on a $110,000 bail.
