JUST IN: Joe Biden Pushes New Lawsuits Against Gun Manufacturers Following Maine Attacks

On Thursday, following the Maine shootings, President Joe Biden pushed for the repeal of protections shielding gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits, universal background checks, and additional gun control measures.

On Thursday, following the shooting incident, a statement by Joe Biden was published on WhiteHouse.gov.

The statement opened with him saying: “Today, Jill and I are praying for the Americans who’ve lost their lives, for those still in critical care, and for the families, survivors, and community members enduring shock and grief.”

He then encouraged residents in the Lewiston area of Maine to follow all law enforcement warnings, including instructions to stay indoors.

Biden eventually shifted his focus to the passage of the summer 2022 gun control legislation he worked on with Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), emphasizing, as usual, that gun control alone isn’t enough.

He then said: “I urge Republican lawmakers in Congress to fulfill their duty to protect the American people. Work with us to pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to enact universal background checks, to require safe storage of guns, and end immunity from liability for gun manufacturers.”

On March 1, 2022, Biden claimed that gun manufacturers are shielded from “liability” and cannot be sued. However, this assertion is factually incorrect.

In reality, gun manufacturers are not shielded from liability. Rather, they are protected from frivolous lawsuits over the criminal use of guns that are legally made and legally sold.
