Gavin Newsom Issues Dire Threat to Trump: ‘If You Will Not Stand Down, We Will Redraw Our Maps to Offset the Rigging in Red States’

California Governor Gavin Newsom is pressing the panic button as Texas and other Red States are poised to remove several Democrats from their House seats via mid-term redistricting, thanks to President Trump’s intervention.

On Monday, Newsom wrote a letter to Trump demanding that he tell the states to back off. If not, he warned Trump that California would have no choice but to rig its own maps.

Moreover, he would lead an effort for other blue states to eliminate GOP seats by hook or by crook.

Here are the key parts of Newsom’s letter:

I am writing to ask you to call on the Governor of Texas and other Red States who are acting on your request to draw new congressional maps through an unprecedented, hyper-partisan gerrymander to rig the upcoming midterm elections, to stop these efforts.

You are playing with fire, risking the destabilization of our democracy, while knowing that California can neutralize any gains you hope to make. The attempt to rig congressional maps to hold onto power before a single vote is cast is an affront to American democracy.

If you will not stand down, California will be forced to lead an effort to redraw our maps to offset the rigging of maps in red states. If the other states call off their redistricting efforts, we will do the same.

Newsom later posted a video on his X page echoing his vows in the letter.

“We will not stand by while you light Democracy on fire,” he adds in the post.
