Trump on Expected Phone Call With Musk: ‘Not Interested in Talking to Him, Elon Is a Man Who Has Lost His Mind’

Politico reported late Thursday that White House aides, in an effort to broker peace, have scheduled a phone call for Friday between President Donald Trump and former DOGE chief Elon Musk.

The move follows a sharp breakdown in their friendship and working relationship over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and other issues tied to Musk’s brief, tumultuous tenure at the Trump White House.

Politico White House reporter Dasha Burns, who broke the story about the planned phone call, also spoke briefly with President Trump about his feud with Elon Musk. (Excerpt below):

Separately, White House aides, after working to persuade the president to temper his public criticism of Musk to avoid escalation, scheduled a call Friday with the billionaire CEO of Tesla to broker a peace.

“Oh it’s okay,” Trump told POLITICO in a brief telephone call when asked about the very public breakup with his onetime megabacker. “It’s going very well, never done better.”

Trump went on to tout his favorability ratings saying, “The numbers are through the roof, the highest polls I’ve ever had and I have to go.”

On Friday, President Trump told ABC News that he’s ‘not particularly’ interested in speaking with Elon Musk and called him ‘a man who has lost his mind.’

He added that Musk wants to talk to him, but he’s not ready to talk to Musk.

Also CNN’s Dana Bash, “I just got off the phone with President Trump. He told me he’s not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem and I wish him well.”
