The Trump Administration isn’t hesitating to take action against those who defy the 47th President, and earlier this week, one government bureaucrat found out the hard way.
Trump fired 17 Inspectors General in a Friday night purge to punctuate the end of his first week in office.
Trump made an exception for current Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari Jr., who is overseeing multiple investigations into the Secret Service’s failures that led to two assassination attempts on his life.
The White House stated they removed these partisan hacks to make room for individuals who will truly “uphold the rule of law and protect democracy.”
Trump also defended the decision while speaking with reporters on Saturday, saying, “It’s a very common thing to do.”
Reuters revealed today that security agents physically removed the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Inspector General from her office on Monday after she defied the Trump White House following her firing.
Phyllis Fong, a 22-year veteran of the USDA, told colleagues that she had no intention of leaving her post after the White House terminated her, claiming Trump had not followed proper procedure.
Reuters reviewed an email by Fong in which she stated the independent Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency “has taken the position that these termination notices do not comply with the requirements set out in law and therefore are not effective at this time.”
Fong refused to comment when contacted by Reuters.
As Inspector General, Fong was responsible for audits, evaluations, investigations, and law enforcement efforts relating to USDA’s programs and operations. But she ultimately failed in this mission.
As The House Committee on Education and Workforce pointed out on their X account, Fong was informed of fraud in the Feeding Our Future program, a $250 million scheme that took funds from hungry children and refused to act.
Despite her failures and complicity in corruption, she believed she was entitled to her position until she was finally escorted out.
