In a last-minute display of disregard for justice, outgoing President Joe Biden granted a preemptive pardon to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, protecting him from any future legal accountability for his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci, who has faced widespread criticism for his contradictory guidance, misleading statements, cover-ups, and controversial research funding, now avoids accountability due to Biden’s unprecedented use of executive clemency.
“For more than half a century, Dr. Fauci served our country. He saved countless lives by managing the government’s response to pressing health crises, including HIV/AIDS, as well as the Ebola and Zika viruses. During his tenure as my Chief Medical Advisor, he helped the country tackle a once-in-a-century pandemic. The United States is safer and healthier because of him,” Biden wrote.
In the 1980s, during the height of the AIDS epidemic, Dr. Fauci told Americans that children could contract AIDS from casual contact.
Fauci also withheld effective treatments from AIDS patients for over a year, leading to thousands of deaths, all while pushing for a vaccine that never came.
Fauci, former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), has finally spoken out following the controversial decision.
Fauci spoke with CNN’s Dana Bash during the network’s coverage of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Bash stated that while Fauci is “very appreciative” of the pardon, he once again maintained that he committed no crimes while leading the U.S. response to the COVID pandemic.
This is what CNN’s Dana Bash said:
“I talked briefly to Anthony Fauci, who got one of the pardons, who said he is very appreciative of what President Biden did. He said, and again and again, he has done nothing wrong, but there are baseless accusations from the Trump administration against him, and he has been very worried about what it will mean for him, and even more so for his family.”
